That was the mission we created for the Randy Salerno Foundation, a goal now being achieved thanks to our generous supporters.

Funds raised from our 2008 Celebrity Golf Outing and Evening Under the Caribbean Twilight, enabled the Foundation to keep Randy's legacy alive.

We established endowed scholarships at Randy's college and high school alma maters, creating lasting awards to support students today and in the future.

The Foundation contributed $26,000 to Illinois State University, setting up The Randy Salerno Endowed Memorial Scholarship fund.

A $1000 need-based scholarship is awarded annually, to a deserving student currently enrolled in ISU's broadcast journalism curriculum.

The Foundation also awarded $10,000 to Crystal Lake South High, to create an endowed scholarship in Randy's name there.

An annual need-based scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to a deserving student who plans to major in broadcast journalism.

Recipients are profiled in the scholarship section of this website. As you will see, each one is eager to follow in Randy's footsteps.

The Foundation has also created and funds—

Randy's Remember U

“Randy’s Remember U” is the first program in McHenry County dedicated to providing grief support for children and teens ages 5 through 18 who have lost a loved one.

It began in the Fall of 2009, through a partnership between the Randy Salerno Foundation and Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois. These two non-profit organizations came together to give kids and their families a safe and supportive place to share memories and to grieve their losses. “Randy’s Remember U” also gives children and young adults peer support through their grief journey.

Staffed by bereavement counselors and trained volunteers, “Randy’s Remember U” meets the third Tuesday of every school-year month from 6pm to 8pm, at the Immanuel Lutheran School in Crystal Lake. The evening begins with a complimentary casual dinner, then kids and teens are divided into age-based groups for therapeutic activities. Parents gather for a similar program, focusing on their own grieving and on the challenges of adjusting to their “new normal.”

If “Randy’s Remember U” can help your family, or someone you know, please contact Hospice Bereavement Director Mary Anne Greene: maryann@rememberingrandy.org

If you’d like to volunteer for this program, please contact Irene Salerno: irene@rememberingrandy.org

Thank you so much for helping to keep Randy’s memory alive.
